American Airlines is updating its regional aircraft cabins to create more synergy with its mainline aircraft and enhance passenger comfort, with a phased rollout starting from this autumn. The carrier operates a fleet of Embraer E170s and 175s and Bombardier CRJ700s and CRJ900s for its regional routes.
On the newly retrofitted aircraft, a focus will be placed on making the cabin interior feel like the mainline fleet, with touches such as updated seat coverings. Passengers will also have in-seat power for phones, tablets, or laptops, and larger overheard bins for the larger Embraer fleet.
The airline has been installing Wi-Fi on its regional fleet for some time, with 300 aircraft fitted with the high-speed connectivity, but plans are in place to expand to the full dual-class regional fleet by early 2026. American will be offering the service as a complimentary option for AAdvantage members.
“Our customers value staying connected in the air, even on a relatively short flight,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “We’ve been working diligently to ensure our regional fleet offers the best and most reliable high-speed connectivity, especially as we look ahead to free Wi-Fi in 2026.”
