Spafax has formed a partnership with Blokur, a subsidiary of Music Reports, a company that leverages new technologies to simplify music rights management. The system is expected to launch at the end of 2024, just before Spafax’s inflight entertainment rollout in early 2025.

The partnership will enable Spafax to enhance the onboard music experience for passengers by using Blokur’s technology to streamline music publishing rights clearances and royalty reporting. Currently, Tuned Global manage Spafax’s record label clearances, which will be paired with Blokur’s systems.

“Partnering with Blokur is an exciting step forward for us,” said Maura Chacko, SVP of Content Experience at Spafax. “By automating the music rights clearance process for publishing, we can craft and deliver memorable listening experiences for passengers, including creating unique playlists that enhance the passenger journey and mirror passenger behaviour on the ground.”

Blokur’s management of music rights administration will help Spafax’s programming team to focus on creating playlists and curating new audio content for passengers, while reducing the workload for Spafax’s airline clients.

“We’re excited to work with Spafax and bring our expertise and industry leading technology in music rights management to inflight entertainment,” commented Gabriella Heybourne, Senior Business Development Manager at Blokur. “Together, we’re simplifying the process so great music can be made available to airline passengers.”
