At AIX 2025, Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, has unveiled enhancements to its Prime wheelchair seating solution following feedback from passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) and industry professionals. Prime enables electric wheelchair users to remain in their wheelchairs for the duration of the flight using a “roll on, lock down” tie-down system, and was originally unveiled at AIX 2024.

Now, the solution uses a transformable monument to provide modern passenger amenities for PRM, such as a height-adjustable tray table with a tablet holder, power outlets, and a passenger service unit with a reading light, attendant call button, and public address speaker.

“The feedback we’ve received has been invaluable and the driving force behind the design and experiential upgrades made to Prime over the last ten months,” said Cynthia Muklevicz, vice president of customer and business development for Collins Aerospace. “The user experience is not only on par with flight amenities enjoyed by every other passenger, but further considerations were implemented to ensure emergency egress standards are met and a caregiver can occupy the seat directly next to the Prime user.”

The prime solution has two modes during service, one where it deploys to provide crews with service space and storage for a half-sized trolley cart, and another mode once the service is over where it converts into a passenger self-service station.
