Nordic Aviation will be the launch customer of De Havilland Canada’s Classic Overhead Bin Extension Solution for the Dash 8-400.

De Havilland and Safran Interiors have created a larger overhead bin with additional stowage volume in response to customers demand for more baggage space. The Bin has a larger door opening, increased baggage room, as well as a new door with NextGen latches and is designed to be consistent with the aircraft’s interiors.

This development will now accommodate two standard 22-inch Travelpro bags per bin section. De Havilland told Inflight that despite an overall size increase of 11%, the “key difference is a 100% increase on capacity for standard bag sizes due to the alteration of the internal geometry of the bin”. This is expected to be launched on the Dash 8-400 later in 2020.

“We are excited to have an environmentally friendly solution that manages the need for increased capacity in overhead bins. The extension will provide passengers a more enjoyable travel experience, and airlines a consistent interior layout,” commented Todd Young, Chief Operating Officer of De Havilland Canada.

Under the agreement, De Havilland Canada is to be the exclusive supplier of future aircraft bin extension modification for Nordic Aviation Capital’s Dash 8-400 fleet. Tom Furley, Chief Operating Officer for Nordic said, “The Classic Overhead Bin Extension will allow those boarding and departing the aircraft to store and access their belongings with ease, improving overall gate-time and efficiency for passengers and airlines.”
