Finnair has launched a collection of new wines in celebration of its centenary. The collection, consisting of red and white wines, were curated with international expert and wine consultant Ken Chase and will be available for Economy Class customers, then later to Business Class passengers at the end of Spring.

The new Castilla la Mancha White 2022, named ‘Destination North’, is a blend of Airén and Verdejo grapes, whilst the new Castilla la Mancha Red 2022 is named ‘100,000 islands’ and features a blend of three grapes, Tempranillo, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Lauri Ahonen, Concept and Category Manager, Finnair, stressed the significance of finding the perfect wine for the airline’s centenary: “That’s why we have made the perfect pairing with Ken Chase, who has carefully selected some topflight wines to tantalise the taste buds and we are excited to serve them onboard to ensure a unique experience for Finnair customers.”

Speaking about curating the wine collection, Ken Chase said: “When selecting the wine for this crucial undertaking, we sought after three key elements in the wines prior to the final blend.”

These three elements were seduction, structure and overall balance, together making up the criteria that each wine would be measured against.

The labels for the new bottles are based on original Finnair posters designed by Erik Bruun in the 1950s and 60s in a nod to the airline’s origin.
