Gen Phoenix, in collaboration with DOY Design, announced that it has supplied Essence, the company’s recycled low-carbon leather, for Heart Aerospace’s full-size regional hybrid-electric aircraft demonstrator, the Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1).

The demonstrator was recently unveiled in Gothenburg, Sweden, at Heart Aerospace’s hangar, and is a mock-up for the ES-30, an aircraft that includes features such as 30-passenger standard seating capacity, an electric zero-emission range of 200 kilometres and an extended hybrid range of 400 kilometres.

Gen Phoenix’s Essence was chosen due to its sustainability features that align with Heart’s ambitions for its ES-30. The recycled leather is lightweight and offers an 83 per cent lower carbon footprint than traditional leather.

Essence has been used with DOY Design’s Ultra-Slim seats. The seats are thin, lightweight, and produced sustainably, allowing for a more efficient use of cabin space.

“Our mission is to reduce our impact on the environment by adopting sustainable design practices and using materials like Essence, which offer both sustainability and quality,” said Gary Doy of DOY Design.
