Iberia has added a new function to its smart phone app to enable passengers to scan their hand luggage with a phone camera to check the dimensions fit within the airline limits.

After scanning the luggage with their phone, the app will tell the passenger whether the bag can be carried on board as hand luggage or if it must be checked-in.

Available for iOs devices, the function was developed based on libraries dedicated to augmented reality, ARKit.

This adds to the feature on the app, through which passengers can also purchase tickets, choose their seat, save a boarding pass and more, including blocking a reservation for 24 or 72 hours.

Passengers can scan their credit card to fill in fields when making purchases, adds trips to their personal calendar, and access the press reader to enjoy in-flight.

If a passenger is an Iberia Plus customer, the app has all their data at a glance, including Avios Elite points, number of flights made and Avios needed to get to the next level, contact numbers etc. Passenger can also update their subscription preferences and add their travel documentation to save time when completing forms.

The app also allows passengers to book hotels and rent cars, as well as access personalised travel guides.
