Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream Aerospace, speaks with Inflight to discuss the current market demand for the company’s G800 aircraft and provide an update on the business jet manufacturer’s upcoming super-midsize G300.
Gulfstream announced in September last year that a new, super-midsize Gulfstream G300 will be joining its next-generation fleet, replacing and building on the company’s highly successful Gulfstream G280.
Inflight got in touch with the aircraft manufacturer to find out how the flight test programme for the new Gulfstream G300 is progressing.
Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream Aerospace, confirms that things are moving along smoothly.
He says: “The G300 flight test programme is progressing well – the aircraft made its first flight last December, less than three months after it was announced. The super-midsize cabin segment continues to be important to our customers, and we are looking forward to welcoming the G300 into our next-generation fleet.”
MAKING THE CONNECTION
When it comes to the interiors of the G300, the design will offer the iconic features Gulfstream is known for, and more.

Burns says: “The G300 passenger experience is pure Gulfstream, and customers will benefit from all that entails, from the 10 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval Windows to the longest cabin in its class and 100% fresh air.”
He notes that in addition, the long G300 cabin and iconic oval Gulfstream windows create new opportunities for super-midsize cabin comfort.
Burns tells Inflight that each seat grouping is aligned with the windows, so every passenger has the ideal Gulfstream view and can benefit from the natural light. Comfort is also enhanced on the G300 with new seat styling.
He says: “Customers can choose from our Sport, Minimalist and Classic seat designs, which feature different bolstering and ergonomic options tailored for G300 mission profiles.”

Within those seat styles is a multitude of special tailoring and personalisation capabilities, with Burns adding: “We also created more storage spaces in the G300 cabin, with an optimised galley and storage areas in the sidewalls that customers can easily access from their seats.”
When it comes to onboard connectivity options and what kind of demand the company is seeing right now from Gulfstream customers, Burns says: “Gulfstream offers a variety of connectivity choices across the fleet, so customers can tailor services precisely to their mission profiles. With the range capabilities of Gulfstream’s next-generation fleet, we are seeing many customers opt for connectivity options that allow for seamless service around the world.”
Honeywell announced in October last year that Honeywell and Gulfstream are working together to certify JetWave X, Honeywell’s high-speed in-flight connectivity system, for Gulfstream’s GIV, GV, G450, G500, G550, G600, G650 and G700 aircraft.
TANGIBLE BENEFITS
Having entered into service last year, the ultra-long-range Gulfstream G800 has already achieved several city-pair speed records and features 100% fresh air in the cabin, a plasma ionisation air purification system, and 16 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval Windows.

Burns notes that demand for the G800 has been surging, from both new and existing customers.
“As deliveries increase and more customers experience the aircraft’s performance first hand, interest in turn continues to grow,” he says.
“With its industry leading range, high speeds and exceptional cabin comfort, the G800 is already delivering a clear operational advantage, and customers are seeing tangible benefits in time savings, efficiency and maintainability.”
Speaking of maintenance, Gulfstream offers an innovative, data-driven solution called the Gulfstream Reliability and Performance Analytics system, which predicts when services and parts need replacing.
To round off the interview, Burns explains to Inflight how this works in practice.
He says: “Gulfstream’s Reliability and Performance Analytics service monitors more than 15,000 parameters across the fleet, enabling us to rigorously collect and analyse data so we can proactively step in before a service interruption occurs.
“Historically, aircraft came in for maintenance after a discrepancy was identified, and that approach has evolved to a more preventative philosophy, leveraging fleet data to prevent an occurrence before it happens.
“The result is in an enhanced maintenance experience with more aircraft availability for our customers.”
