Safran Passenger Innovations (SPI) has released the final designs for Accessible In-Flight Entertainment (IFE), a project that was first launched at AIX 2024 that looks to render IFE more accessible for passengers with no extra cost to the industry.

“Accessible IFE is grounded in our dedication to simplifying user interfaces and highlighting essential functions, enabling individuals with disabilities to effortlessly navigate and enjoy the entertainment system,” said Ben Asmar, Vice President of Products and Strategy at Safran Passenger Innovations. “A pivotal takeaway from our development process was the importance of consistency. By implementing these designs across the industry, we have an opportunity to create a meaningful impact and significantly enhance access to IFE for all passengers.”

The designs provide visual, auditory, mobility, and cognitive enablements such as simplified navigation, high contrast text and iconography, colour themes for colour blindness, easy access to settings and assistance from flight attendants, and large buttons in either text or image format.
