Satcom Direct is adding an automated carbon reporting tool to its SD Pro operating system, set to launch in August 2023. The new function will provide real-time data calculating a flight’s carbon emissions through fuel burn, fuel type and blend and present these results to operators for individual aircraft or entire fleets for the duration of a selected period or flight.

The reporting tool will streamline the computations relating to mandatory and voluntary emission reporting and offsetting by generate reports and metrics including how much CO2 has been generated, the airspace in which it was produced and comparisons to other flights and data.

“With the industry pledging to be carbon neutral by 2050, we recognise that aircraft operators need to monitor each flight’s environmental impact,” said Jim Jensen, Founder and CEO, Satcom Direct. “SD customers no longer need to rely solely on third-party providers to analyze the figures and generate the reports.”

The first phase of the system will enable operators to view CO2 emissions, purchase offset credits and access associated certificates and records. The new module will be showcased at this year’s EBACE at booth T106.

“It saves time and ensures that all of an operator’s flight departments, no matter where they are in the world, use the same standard to ensure consistent calculations. The carbon reporting tool is especially beneficial to those responsible for environmental social governance, ESG, initiatives and ever-evolving CORSIA compliance,” added Jensen.
