Singapore Airlines has become the first airline to offer direct online shopping on KrisShop on board its planes.

The online shopping platform from Airfree, integrates the KrisShop offer into a single marketplace available on SIA’s connected onboard multimedia system, supplied by Thales. Passengers can choose and buy items as well as take advantage of attractive promotions, all from a single marketplace and with real-time payment. Passengers can have their purchases delivered to their homes or during an upcoming flight, whether it is a connection or a return flight.

The solution entered into service at the end of June and will be gradually deployed on certain Singapore Airlines Airbus A350s.

“E-commerce is the future of sales and the integration of this functionality into our in-car multimedia system is another industry first for SIA. This enables KrisWorld to meet the expectations of passengers by offering them more than just movies, TV shows, music and games. This is part of our unwavering commitment to continuously innovate and improve our product and service offering, and to broaden the travel experience for our customers,” commented Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Singapore Airlines.

“Since its rebranding in 2019, KrisShop has been working to rethink the relationship with the consumer. Today, in collaboration with Singapore Airlines, we are delighted, through the integration of our live e-commerce platform on KrisWorld, to be able to bring a renewal to the in-flight shopping experience. This allows us to expand our presence in the travel segment and reinforces our commitment to providing all of our customers with an integrated user experience,” added Chris Pok, Managing Director of KrisShop.

Qatar Airways has become the first airline to offer 100% touch free IFE access vis PEDs

Passengers travelling on board the airline’s Airbus A350 fleet will soon be able to access the Oryx One in-flight entertainment system through their own personal electronic devices, minimising the risk of COVID-19.

To pair their PED, passengers need to connect to ‘Oryxcomms’ Wi-Fi and scan a QR code displayed on the Thales AVANT IFE screen. They can then use their devices to navigate and enjoy more than 4,000 options on Oryx One limiting the frequency of on board surface contact and providing greater peace of mind throughout the duration of their journey.

The airline is also set to become the first in Europe and the Middle East and North Africa region to offer passengers in Business and Economy the option to pair their personal Bluetooth headphones with the on-board seatback IFE system in all cabins on the Boeing 787-9 fleet.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: “The introduction of the state-of-the-art…technology and enabling passengers to use their personal Bluetooth headset on board, is an important step in taking our already rigorous and stringent COVID-19 precautions to another level, limiting passenger surface contact and preventing any possible spread of infection on board.

“We hope it provides yet further assurance of the safety of air travel, as well as offering passengers on board increased confidence that they are enjoying the most consistently advanced customer experience available in the sky.”

CTT Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Camfil, a manufacturer of premium clean air solutions, to adapt and incorporate Camfil’s air filtration technology for aircraft and the aviation industry.

Under the partnership, CTT will incorporate air filtration in its humidifier products, in order to further improve air quality for pilots, crew and passengers. The initial objective is to reduce Ozone and/or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

By integrating filter technology in the pad module that is aligned with the service interval of the pad material, airlines can rip-and-replace the entire pad module. The pad-filters will be completely interchangeable with current product line of humidifiers/pads.

Mark Simmons CEO at Camfil commented. “We will work very closely with CTT to develop tailor-made filters certified for use in aircraft with very specific, high performance filtration and low pressure drop.”

“The premium-air-pad will be developed for our humidifiers in flight deck, crew rest and passenger cabin on Boeing 777X (main picture) and Airbus A350, as well as for crew rests on the 787, improving air quality without adding extra service or maintenance,” added Torbjörn Johansson CEO at CTT Systems. “Airlines can initially select Ozone and VOC reduction.”
