As part of a complete refurbishment of a Gulfstream GIV SP aircraft, ALTO Aviation partnered with VIP Completions, to install a new ALTO cabin audio system.

The new ALTO Sound system replaced the obsolete factory-installed audio system. The installation included six ultralight, high-performance ASP-401 Mid-High loudspeakers, which are fit-compatible replacements for the original loudspeakers.

This cabin audio upgrade required a substantial improvement of the bass performance over the original system, which was achieved by strategically placing four ASW-279 ALTO Subwoofers into the aircraft’s two cabin zones, providing a crystal-clear, powerful, and balanced acoustic performance. In addition, the installation offered excellent sound performance throughout the cabin, fully supported by two ALTO DA-230 amplifiers.

An ALTO cabin systems engineer tuned the system onsite at the VIP Completions facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US to perfectly match the aircraft’s acoustic profile upon completing the installation. Following the specifications of the aircraft owner, the tuning focused on a fully optimised and powerful Stereo presentation, with special sonic attention and sweet spots specifically directed to the second row of VIP seats in the forward zone.

“The aircraft came with its original interior; at almost 20-years-old it was dated visually and cabin entertainment and connectivity standpoint. The owner wanted to modernise everything and insisted on the best of the best. We did not hesitate one second in recommending the ALTO product to ensure an incredible audio experience for the owner and all their guests,” said Ben Shirazy, President of VIP Completions.

“Every detail of this seamless installation by VIP Completions is simply outstanding and looks straight from the factory; we are so excited and thankful knowing that the ALTO Sound specifically designed for this project has exceeded their client’s strict audiophile requirements. We look forward to continuing our valued and consistent partnership with VIP Completions to provide their clients with unrivalled cabin sound quality and to continue exceeding their highest acoustic expectations,” Don Hamilton, ALTO Aviation President, said.

The installation is part of a complete aircraft refurbishment that included new wood, upholstery, carpeting, soft goods, plating, lighting, and audio and video upgrades.

ALTO Aviation has introduced its new 2022 Public Address (PA) and Passenger Entertainment Audio System specifically designed and customised for Embraer’s light jet Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 in mind.

ALTO Aviation cabin systems engineers have developed a PA system that employs a digital amplifier, and 100% fit compatible speakers for mounting in factory-provided speaker locations on all legacy Phenom 100 and 300 aircraft. The solution allows the pilot to communicate with great acoustic quality safety messages and announcements to any passenger in the cabin who not wearing intercom headphones.

The ALTO Phenom PA system with PA/chimes is specifically designed to provide Phenom 100 & 300 operators with an important safety feature that was never offered as part of the original Embraer Phenom factory completion.

The flight crew can make PA announcements from the cockpit by selecting the existing PA button on the audio panel. A PA chime will activate when the microphone is keyed, and the crew can make clear announcements to passengers without requiring them to wear headphones.

This versatile solution also adds entertainment audio to aircraft with an Embraer audio system installed and will provide all the cabin passengers with an ‘outstanding’ listening experience. Passengers can plug in their personal media device or connect to an optional ALTO Bluetooth receiver and listen to music through a customised ALTO Aviation premium digital sound system.

PA announcements override any entertainment audio playing during the PA event.

“I am always very excited offering all our clients’ solutions exclusively designed with their aircraft in mind. The 2022 PA/Entertainment Audio Upgrade program allows Phenom operators to invest in safety with a premium airline-quality PA system, and easily add amazing entertainment audio for their passengers to enjoy by upgrading to a powerful ALTO audio system,” said Steve Lord, Senior Technical Sales Manager & Embraer Program Specialist at ALTO Aviation.

ALTO Aviation introduces new cabin audio upgrade solution for retrofit Challenger aircraft

ALTO Aviation new cabin audio upgrade program specifically designed for retrofit Challenger aircraft 601, 604, and 605

ALTO Aviation has introduced a new cabin audio upgrade program specifically designed for retrofit Challenger aircraft 601, 604, and 605.

Former Audio International (AI) digital Cabin Management Systems implemented serially controlled amps and integrated A/V components. To effectively bypass this system limitation, an RS-485 databus reader was added to an ALTO DZ-290 amp to interpret audio settings for audio selection, volume levels, EQ presets, and speaker on/off. This serial databus reader allows the existing AI CMS to remain intact but will enable ALTO to control the audio path from source to amplification; this way, ALTO can get the best audio signal directly to the ALTO amp and control the system in tandem with the existing CMS. This integration is vital to preserving the existing AI architecture and minimising the impact on the currently installed CMS.

Former Baker systems typically employ traditional analogue amps that can be easily replaced by ALTO components. Often, internal PA audio distribution is sent through the amps. Most Baker Cabin Management Systems can remain intact with minimal impact and redesign. A more comprehensive solution is required when former Baker M2060 and M3070 amps are employed.

Many AI and Baker speakers may be replaced with 100% fit-compatible ALTO speakers, making the installation easy and seamless. ALTO Aviation offers several loudspeaker models with adapter brackets to fit into the same mounting hole patterns. These brackets make the installation very simple, a real “remove and replace” alternative that simplifies the upgrade path.

“The Challenger aircraft is a top-rated upgrade program for ALTO, and customers appreciate the great sound when they get a new ALTO audio system. By reusing the same PSU grills and implementing 100% fit compatible speakers, we help keep the installation costs low, making it an attractive sale to the customer. Every ALTO audio system is supported with an onsite custom tuning by an ALTO audio engineer to ensure peak performance. So, whether the upgrade is to simply make the cabin audio system sound better or to complement your new CMS upgrade to HD monitors, we can help,” said Kevin Hayes, VP of Sales & Marketing.

Schematic of ALTO OnDemand Audio layout

ALTO Aviation has introduced its new ALTO On-Demand Audio Optimisation feature.

The On-Demand Audio Optimisation feature allows a particular seat or section of the aircraft to receive the VIP Audio treatment. At the touch of a button or swipe on the Alto remote control app, the selected seat can be placed right at the center of the action. The bass from all the subwoofer can be digitally focused for maximum impact.

The Mid-High speakers are time-aligned and individually equalised for a perfect sweet spot at the VIP’s ears. The speakers behind the VIP seat can provide the surround channels for an ideal surround sound cinema immersion.

“Our new System Master Controller will be able to dynamically control the DSP in our amplifiers to set up custom EQ configurations on demand. The sound profiles can reflect a VIP seat eccentric audio configuration setting, including surround sound and spatially balanced speakers. This approach will allow us to retroactively repurpose previous ALTO audio systems with these new features with minimal changes to the architecture,” commented Kevin Hayes, ALTO Aviation VP Sales & Marketing.
