IFPL has been awarded a 2021 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise for Innovation.

The company previously received the award in 2008 and 2014.

IFPL has been honoured in the ‘Innovation’ category for their design of a contactless payment and personalisation device for use in commercial passenger aircraft. The device can be installed as an addition to seatback in-flight entertainment systems, and solves the problems of its predecessors’ poor reliability, expensive production costs, and vulnerability to fraud.

IFPL founder and CEO Geoff Underwood commented: “The aviation sector has been through a tough period recently, so being recognised as a company that is consistently working hard to create innovative products that will help operators to recover post-pandemic is a real boost. I’m so proud of the whole IFPL family for this fantastic achievement.”

Recaro’s CL3710 economy class seat has won a Focus Open Silver Award, from the Baden Württemberg International Design Academy.

This is the fifth Focus Open Award won by Recaro since the competition’s inception in 1991.

“The CL3710 is in a class of its own, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the recognition it has received from such a prestigious competition,” said Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder at Recaro Aircraft Seating. “Our customers view this product as an opportunity to set themselves apart from their competitors, and passengers appreciate the support and comfort the seat offers, especially while sleeping.”

The CL3710 is currently flying on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Vistara, Air China, and several other international airlines.

Recaro implemented numerous signature innovations to the CL3710, including the Abrazo headrest, extended seat bottom, and flip cushion for enhanced lumbar support. The modular design reduces maintenance, while still allowing for significant customisation features, including connectivity options and cabin configurations.

The CL3710’s combination of ergonomic comfort, space savings and lightweight design has also earned Recaro an iF Design Award and a Crystal Cabin Award in “Passenger Comfort Hardware.” In addition, the seat has been awarded two Gold German Design Awards, including one for its hygienic seat concept, which coats seat touchpoints with an antibacterial solution. Most recently, the solution has been revamped to also fight viruses.

FlightPath3D has won the ‘Preferred App’ award and was joint winner of the ‘Best Innovation’ award at Airbus’s First Online Hackathon.

The Hackathon, held from 7-9 July, is part of Airbus‘ #KeepTrustInAirTravel initiative and is designed to develop OnBoard Digital Solutions on an Airbus Open Software Platform to support better operations in a post-COVID world.

FlightPath3D CEO Boris Veksler said: “We leveraged our HTML/WebGL streaming 3D map and via our Open API platform integrated 3rd party content into our map, and vice versa provided map features into 3rd party apps. The innovation we achieved is linked to the openness of the Airbus platform, and to the eco-system of App developers that are compatible with the platform.”

FlightPath3D President Duncan Jackson added: “We integrated duty-free merchandising, advertising, and the ability to buy with a payment solution into our map. 3rd party apps used our destination content, street maps, and flight tracker to augment their already highlyfunctional apps.”
