Virgin Atlantic has showcased the capabilities of its new Starlink in-flight Wi‑Fi with a live performance by the Sugababes, streamed globally from 35,000 feet. The event took place in The Loft, the Upper Class social space on the airline’s Airbus A350, with fans able to watch in real time and submit questions during an onboard Q&A.

The group ‒ Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy ‒ performed several of their best‑known tracks as the cabin was transformed into a temporary stage. The livestream was powered by Starlink’s low‑Earth‑orbit satellite network, which supports multi‑gigabit connectivity via its Aero Terminal and enables passengers to stream, browse, work and message across multiple devices.

Virgin Atlantic is rolling out Starlink across its fleet, beginning with the A350s and expanding to the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330neo as installations progress. The airline expects full‑fleet connectivity by 2027. The service provides high‑speed, low‑latency coverage globally, including over oceans and remote regions, supporting gate‑to‑gate connectivity on routes such as North America, the Caribbean, Nigeria and the Maldives.

Juha Jaervinen, Chief Customer Officer at Virgin Atlantic, said: “This isn’t just about introducing Wi-Fi, it’s about showing what it can do. By livestreaming a performance from 35,000 feet, we’re demonstrating the power of Starlink to deliver a seamless, high-quality connection in the air, just as our customers expect on the ground.”

The Sugababes added: “We always said the sky was the limit ‒ turns out, it’s just the beginning! Taking live music to the skies and turning an airplane into a global stage is unlike anything we’ve ever done. The idea that fans around the world can experience it with us in real time makes it even more surreal. We can’t wait to make history at 35,000 feet. See you above the clouds.”
