Interest in Pilatus connectivity growing ahead of EBACE

By Business aviation, FeaturedNo Comments

Pilatus specialist Oriens Aviation of the UK is building up to EBACE later this month, flagging up growing interest from customers about connectivity and Wi-Fi installations as one of its key areas of focus.

The company, which has completed three Pilatus PC-12NG aircraft deliveries so far this year with another sale expected later this summer, will feature its London Biggin Hill-based demonstrator aircraft on static display at EBACE (28-31 May) in Geneva, Switzerland.

“We had a lot of interest in the aircraft at AERO Friedrichshafen last month,” said Edwin Brenninkmeyer, CEO of Oriens Aviation. Sales director Craig Lammiman added that the business is seeing an increased interest from existing and potential customers about connectivity and Wi-Fi installations on both new units and retrofits. “We look forward to talking with specialist companies about this during EBACE,” he added.

Business aviation analyst Richard Koe, managing director at WINGX, pointed out: “The pro-competitive relaxing of rules on Single-Engined Turboprops flying commercially is going to lower the product price-point. This will be the year to see whether the popularity of the leading single-engine type amongst owners will be translated into a larger charter market.”

The US$5 million-priced Pilatus PC-12 can fly up to eight passengers in a luxury pressurized cabin, and has a range of up to 1,800 miles.

Oriens’ new service centre at Biggin Hill, Oriens Maintenance Services, complements its sales activity with MRO support, plus warranty work, AOC and pilot training.

Bombardier unveils the Nuage seat

By Business aviation, Featured, SeatingNo Comments

Boasting the first new seat architecture in business aviation in 30 years, Bombardier Business Aircraft has unveiled the Nuage seat, debuting on the Global 7000 aircraft.

“In designing the Nuage seat, we examined every conceivable passenger need and comfort that might arise while seated in flight and launched our process from there,” said Peter Likoray, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “This empathetic design philosophy inspired us to craft a seat unlike any other – the most innovative seat the industry has seen in three decades. Offering an unprecedented balance of comfort and control, Nuage is an ergonomic and aesthetic masterpiece that redefines the very notion of seated comfort for life above the clouds.”

The Nuage features a patented tilt link system that dips the seat as the back is reclined, keeping the body fully supported with no added pressure on the legs, as well as featuring a fluid movement system and patented floating base, which allows the seat to track and swivel naturally and effortlessly and without visible floor rails, further enhancing its streamlined look. The fluid movement system also includes a centre swivel axis for an intuitively centred point of rotation in any position, allowing the passenger to swivel with ease and remarkable precision. For added comfort and support, the Nuage seat is equipped with a tilting headrest.

Securaplane completes HD CMX STC for Gulfstream models

By Business aviation, FeaturedNo Comments
Securaplane Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Meggitt PLC, has completed an STC to install its HD cameras into Gulfstream G350, G450 and G550 aircraft.

This STC provides Gulfstream operators with the ability to retrofit their standard definition cameras and equipment due to Securaplane’s similar design characteristics. The HD CMX camera system is a direct form, fit and function for the standard definition Securaplane camera system already installed on many Gulfstream aircraft.

The CMX-HD cameras offer multiple functions for aircraft including in-flight entertainment, situational awareness and gear position viewing. Available for installation on the vertical fin or belly fuselage, the camera’s lightweight and aerodynamic design incorporates a heated sapphire glass window for exceptional imaging performance. The camera has been tested to ensure that it can withstand all of the severe environmental conditions that airplanes encounter.

Securaplane’s HD cameras use an 1080p resolution and are enclosed in a heated sapphire glass, which allows for rapid demisting and defrosting, yielding camera use in the coldest and most rugged ambient conditions.

Bombardier’s Singapore service centre has installed its first Ka-band system on an in-service Global 6000 aircraft, two years after installing the first-ever Ka-band system on an in-service Global 5000 aircraft.

“Our customers need to stay connected no matter where they are in the world, and Bombardier continues to lead the industry in offering the most advanced in-flight media experience available today on both its new and in-service aircraft,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, vice president and general manager, customer experience, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “With Ka-band, passengers can remain connected across oceans, at 41,000 feet, and virtually everywhere they fly. Moreover, our OEM-owned service centres have become masters of the installation to ensure aircraft are returned to service within a minimum downtime.”

“In Asia Pacific, business jet owners and operators are demanding better, faster, and more consistent in-flight Wi-Fi that is identical as what they have on the ground. With Honeywell’s JetWave hardware and GoDirect Cabin services, business jet owners and operators now have the ability to manage usage and bandwidth to be cost effective,” said Andy Gill, senior director, business and general aviation, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. “This new generation of technology is a complete step change from previous generations of airborne hardware allowing a much smoother installation process. We have been working very closely with the Bombardier team to minimise the down time for Jetwave installations, so operators can adopt this technology with a minimum amount of disruption to their flight operations, which has been key to the rapid adoption of our JetWave system by leading business jet manufacturers like Bombardier.”

Located at Seletar Airport, Bombardier’s Singapore service centre is one of nine service centres, six line maintenance stations and 23 Mobile Response Team vehicles that comprise Bombardier’s worldwide maintenance network.
