American Airlines to offer high-speed Wi-Fi in board nearly 500 regional aircraft

American Airlines has revealed that from 2024, over the next two years, the carrier plans to bring high-speed internet connectivity to nearly 500 of its dual-class regional aircraft.

American says that earlier this year, it became the first airline to offer streaming capability on board all of its mainline fleet and its expanded relationship with Intelsat will take streaming capabilities to new heights.

Intelsat offers Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antenna technology to the carrier which is unique because it is multi-orbit, interoperating on both Intelsat’s family of geo-stationary satellites and on a constellation of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

American says the new technology will allow its regional aircraft to match fast Wi-Fi speeds that are currently available on American’s mainline aircraft and reinforces the carrier’s commitment to provide a consistent and connected experience for customers on all of American’s connectivity-equipped flights.
