Finnair celebrates 100 years of flight

Finnish flag-carrier Finnair, which was stablished on 1 November 1923 as Aero, is celebrating 100 years of operations with special events, partnerships and onboard offering.

The carrier offers stylish and contemporary Nordic service across its worldwide route network. The airline has recently invested a massive €200m in an enhanced customer experience and elevated long-haul flight product and was named as a five-star airline by APEX, following 13th consecutive years being named the ‘Best Airline in Northern Europe’.

One of the mainstays of the oneworld alliance, Finnair has been long known for connecting Europe with Asia. To mark the centenary, the airline’s special events include a celebratory takeover Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, performances by the Finnair Singers, virtual reality flying experiences and special catering on board flights.

Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director UK & Ireland, said: “We are incredibly proud to be marking this major milestone in Finnair’s flying history.”

Special celebratory menus

To celebrate the centenary, Finnair recently launched a special centenary menu and a collection of new special celebratory wines available on long-haul Business Class flights departing from Helsinki until 23 January 2024.

The specially created Finnair 100 dishes include reindeer meatballs and mashed potatoes with mustard and port wine sauce. Finnair says that while its 100 menu mainly focuses on long-haul Business Class, passengers in other travel classes on flights departing Helsinki can also enjoy Finnair 100 inspired dishes.

The Business Class menu includes starters originating from the 1980s and 1990s and main courses from the 1960s and 1970s while the centenary menu desserts, such as Blueberry Pie and Sea Buckthorn Mousse, are timeless classics which showcase the diversity and freshness of Finnish food culture.

The carrier’s wine list has been curated with international expert and wine consultant Ken Chase and offers enticing and captivating aromas alongside traditionally rich flavours.

Free messaging on board

Finnair has also launched a new free in-flight messaging service, with the carrier’s Finnair Plus frequent flyers enjoying complimentary messaging on all European flights operated by Finnair’s narrow-body Airbus fleet.

The service aims to provide customers connectivity at 35,000 feet and allows them to send and receive text-based messages using WhatsApp, Viber, Kakao Talk, WeChat and iMessage.
