UK-based Fruits For Drinks is hoping to entice the airline community with its freeze-dried citrus fruits and berries for use as an onboard drinks garnish solution.

The company claims that an immediate and obvious benefit is that Fruits For Drinks weighs 85% less than fresh fruit.

In the airline industry, the company identified over 25 different cost and touch points in the journey of fruit from delivery to glass, but Fruits For Drinks claims to eliminate almost all of them. Furthermore, the company claims to have near zero waste in the production cycle, as the end of the fruits are being freeze-dried then ground up and sold into the flavouring sector for manufacturing with chocolate and confectionery.

The packaging guarantees a nine month best before date and is resealable and compostable.

Fruits For Drinks comes in 40 and 20 serving resealable bags specifically-designed for airline trolley service.

There are a number of airlines slated to test Fruits For Drinks long-haul and short-haul in the coming weeks.

David Ross, Director of Fruits For Drinks said of the partnership: “To create a product which delivers excellent flavour for passengers and in turn can provide a great solution for the staff in these arenas, while providing an upturn in margin and reduction in carbon footprint and waste is immensely satisfying. Our ethos and working practice is about being the leaders in sustainability, waste and carbon footprint reduction and ease of service. Fruits For Drinks is the ideal partner for airlines who want all this.”
