Lebanon’s national carrier, Middle East Airlines (MEA) has selected Panasonic as its in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) provider for 15 of its new Airbus A321 family aircraft.

The new aircraft, which have begun to be delivered, offer Wi-Fi connectivity for the first time. According to Panasonic, the service has a host of next-generation connectivity benefits from fast internet to video streaming, all powered by a new satellite modem which offers bandwidth up to twenty times greater than previously available.

The initial nine A321neos will be line-fitted with Panasonic’s eX1 seatback IFE solution, designed specifically for narrowbody aircraft.

eX1 comprises full HD seatback monitors, complete with touch displays and handsets, and an intuitive, personalised interface. Passengers will have access to USB and laptop charging power points at every seat.

In June 2019, MEA signed a firm order for four A321XLRs, making it the launch airline customer. The agreement takes Middle East Airlines’ cumulative single aisle orders with Airbus to 15 A321neo family aircraft, including 11 A321neos and 4 A321XLRs with deliveries starting in 2020. MEA will use the A321XLR to strengthen its network in Africa and Asia.
