Vietjet signs with AirFi and SKYTRAC for IFE and connectivity trial

Emma Kelly reports from the Singapore Air Show.

Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet signed a memorandum of understanding at this week’s Singapore Air Show with AirFi and SKYTRAC for a wireless in-flight entertainment and connectivity trial on one of the carrier’s Airbus A320s and one A330.

The fast-growing Hanoi-based carrier will trial the IFE and connectivity solution ahead of a decision to deploy the technology across the airline’s fleet. The carrier operates 80 Airbus narrowbodies and seven widebody A330-300s. It has more than 230 Airbus and Boeing narrowbodies on order and this week also signed an MoU at the show with Airbus for 20 widebody Airbus A330neos, which would replace the seven leased A330-300s currently in the fleet.

AirFi’s wireless solution provides digital entertainment, shopping and airline branding and ancillary revenue opportunities, while SKYTRAC’s Iridium Certus solution delivers connectivity. More than 70 airline and rail operators already offer AirFi’s passenger entertainment and engagement solution.
