Gulfstream G280

Gulfstream Aerospace is continuing to invest in its super-midsize Gulfstream G280, with the company announcing that the aircraft now has an even lower cabin altitude and new LED exterior lights.

“The G280 continues to set the standard for the super-midsize class and we are seeing outstanding levels of interest from customers around the world,” said Gulfstream president Mark Burns. “This past year marked a record sales year for the G280, validating that our continued investment has been well-received.”

Gulfstream says its ongoing research and development coupled with excellence in interior outfitting has allowed the company to reduce the G280’s cabin altitude from 6,000 feet (1,829 metres) to 4,800 ft (1,463 metres) at a 41,000 ft / 12,497 m cruising altitude, resulting in less strain on the body and leaving passengers even more relaxed and refreshed on arrival at their destination.

The G280’s new exterior LED lights upgrade results in reduced maintenance requirements and improved reliability, bolstering aircraft safety through increased visibility in flight and during ground operations.

The new features will be available on new G280s mid-2023 and for existing customers as an optional retrofit. Gulfstream has also added a host of new G280 features in the past year that enhance passenger experience and increase safety while streamlining pilot workload.

G280 aircraft can now be equipped with Gulfstream’s plasma ionisation clean air system which has been proven in lab tests to neutralise pathogens and allergens, and other new features include increased vertical separation minimum validation intervals from 24 to 96 months to reduce aircraft downtime and controller-Pilot Datalink Communication (CPDLC) being FANS-E compliant.

Customers who choose the Gulfstream G280 avionics upgrade V3.6.1 are provided with SiriusXM graphical weather with real-time updates, dual electronic charts and a surface management system providing aural and visual cues to alert pilots to unsafe ground and arrival operations that helps prevent runway incursions.

Access to vertical weather and predictive windshear information is also included, allowing pilots ample time to avoid weather issues in flight.

The G280 provides access to some of the world’s most challenging airports and was recently certified to the Federal Aviation Administration’s stringent Stage 5 noise standards. According to Gulfstream, it is the only aircraft in its class with Visual Advantage credit, giving select operators authorisation to dispatch and begin instrument approaches in low-visibility conditions below published approach minima.
